How can we help?

Getting started

What do I need to run Cantaê?

A Windows 10 or 11 computer (macOS and Linux are coming), your music files and any microphone if you want scoring. A DirectX 12 graphics card is optional but makes preparing songs much faster.

Which audio formats work?

Common formats like MP3, FLAC, WAV, M4A/AAC and OGG. Cantaê reads the title, artist, album, cover and genre from the file's tags — or from the file name, like Artist - Song.mp3.

Does Cantaê copy or change my music files?

Never. Your folders are only read. The separated tracks and lyrics are saved in Cantaê's own data folder, which you can place on any disk.

Why does the first launch download files?

The AI models (vocal separation, lyrics transcription and pitch detection) are downloaded once and verified. That's about 1.2 GB.

Preparing songs

What does “preparing” a song mean?

Cantaê separates the voice from the instrumental, finds and syncs the lyrics, and extracts the melody used for scoring. It runs on your computer and you can watch every step in the Preparation queue.

How long does it take?

Usually from under a minute to a few minutes per song, depending on your computer. With a graphics card it's much faster, and the next song is separated while the current one finishes.

The lyrics are wrong or missing. What can I do?

Open the song's lyrics editor to search again, import an .lrc file or edit it yourself. With the voice already separated, Cantaê realigns your lyrics to the singer automatically.

Can I keep the backing vocals?

Yes. Turn on Keep backing vocals in the instrumental in Settings and Cantaê removes only the lead singer from the next songs you prepare.

Phones & TVs

Do guests need to install anything?

No. They scan the QR code and the room opens in the phone's browser. The Android app is optional — it finds the party by itself and can notify you when it's your turn.

Phones can't connect to the room.

Make sure they're on the same Wi-Fi as the computer. The first time you open a session, Windows asks whether Cantaê can accept network connections — allow it. Some guest networks block devices from seeing each other.

How do I show the karaoke on my TV?

Three ways: an HDMI cable (Cantaê opens a second screen), the Cantaê TV app for Android TV, or the TV's web browser at the address shown in the session.

Can the sound come out of the TV?

Yes. On the TV app or browser, press any remote button and choose Play the sound here. Lyrics and scoring compensate for the delay automatically.

Scoring

Which microphone should I use?

Any microphone Windows recognizes — USB, headset or webcam. In a session, the singer's phone with the Cantaê app can also be the microphone.

Long notes stop being detected after a second or two.

That's Windows' “audio enhancements” treating a steady note as noise. Open the classic Sound Control Panel › Recording › your microphone › Properties and turn off Enable audio enhancements.

What are the scoring levels?

Casual is forgiving (any octave, short gaps allowed), Precise tightens pitch and timing, and Perfect only rewards the real thing. Scores from different levels are ranked separately.

Is my voice recorded?

No. The microphone is analyzed in real time to measure pitch and is never recorded or stored.

Licensing

How does the free version work?

You can prepare up to 5 songs with every feature unlocked. To prepare more, activate a license key.

How much will a license cost?

Prices will be announced when the new Cantaê launches. It's a license key — not a subscription.

I own Cantaê Classic. Is it still supported?

Yes, Cantaê Classic remains available on the Microsoft Store. We'll share details for existing users before the new version launches.
